I've always said there are many ways to get somewhere. You can take Main, Broadway, or Houston and still reach the same place. I think people forget that when they talk about who they've become.
What shaped me was not necessarily required
I've had experiences that changed how I read a room, how I approach people, and how I decide what to share. Those adaptations became part of how I move through the world. But I don't believe that means every difficult experience was necessary.
I like who I am
I like the person I am today. That's not the same as being grateful for everything that happened to me. There might have been gentler roads to some of the same qualities. We shouldn't have to romanticize suffering to recognize our own growth.
Choosing again
Our past influences us, sometimes without our permission. But noticing that influence can make new choices possible. Maybe freedom isn't having a history that never hurts. Maybe it's realizing there are still other roads.
